“Can’t Do” Is a Liar: Rejecting Narratives of Disempowerment
This article is for the believers. It’s for the doers. This is for those who refuse a “can’t do” attitude. If this is you, read on.

Have you ever been told you “can’t do” something?
…I have. Speaking on a personal level, I have experienced meeting individuals and operating in communities that have been told what they “can’t do” for a very long time. It sometimes feels like “can’t do” is embedded in a person’s DNA or heralded as a community’s religion.
But this article is not for them.
Have you ever did something they said you couldn’t?
…I have. I was told not to even bother applying to a higher-echelon university because our students don’t do well there. I have been told many times that I could not succeed in business, acquire the necessary licensing and achieve in the investment advising industry, generate five-figure paydays in the real estate industry, or successfully build one of the fastest-growing business solutions organizations in the direct selling industry: only to attract, onboard, train, and guide the success of 142 active producers.
…And so have many others in my community.
Many before me have toiled in the dark, renaissanced Harlem, journaled freedom, and grandfathered social sciences. They have authored rage lyrics that echo humanity and victory. They confronted apartheid, with blistered hands and souls, bodies wasting away in jail, and emerged dignified, presidential, and forged a freer world. They are the courageous ones who shepherded the underground railroad when the train stations were closed.
…It’s empowering to OVERCOME, and believe that you CAN.
You have stuck with this article because you know there is a river of courage, accomplishment, brilliance, and sacrifice that YOU can tap into. You model your life off the architects who built the pyramids, the mathematicians who calculated the trajectories of the stars, and those who forged irrigation systems and fed their people from dry land.
You know the figures throughout history who taught philosophy while erecting cities and sprinkled gold through the sands. Those who dared to declare, “I am the king of the world! I am the greatest.”
You are a dreamer and a doer. You know that stumbling is not falling, and in every adversity lies the seed of progress. You can imagine the future you are building for yourself and the home you are building for your family, rather than believing your fate is sealed in some undesirable place.
You are NEVER beholding to a religion of “can’t do.”
It is ALWAYS possible to choose your next step. You have continued reading because you believe in choice and in your own sense of AGENCY.
You believe that:
You can choose progress over popularity.
You can choose pressure over comfort.
You can choose growth over stagnation or backsliding, even when it is hard.
You can choose what set of outcomes are within your realm of possibility.
You are a trailblazer.
You are someone who gets it done.
YOU REFUSE TO ACCEPT A RELIGION OF “CAN’T DO.”
YOU REFUSE TO ACCEPT A LOSER’S CREED.
The Key Is…
Can’t do, is a liar.
Can do, is the answer.
The world around us wasn’t built by the exceptional. It was built by everyday people who were willing to do exceptional things. Go build something.
